Over the years many property owners have asked me to help them fix a roofing problem caused by unqualified and sometimes unethical roofing contractors. You can imagine what happened when their new roof didn't function properly. These people were riping their hair out when they realized their new roof needed to be repaired. To make matters worse the contractor that did the job was nowhere to be found. Many of these property owners chose a contractor because he quoted a low price. Imagine how they felt after paying me thousands of dollars to fix what the previous roofing company failed to do correctly.

Home improvement companies generate more complaints than any other industry, with roofing companies leading the industry in total complaints received. It’s rare that a low priced contractor will meet your service expectations. Look, the results of a survey about consumer complaints published by The Associated Press “Home improvement services and auto sales sparked the most complaints from consumers”. The survey done by National Association of Consumer Agency Administrators and the consumer Federation of America found that “home improvement services for the first time overtook auto sales as the No.1 complaint”.

We take pride in our record of no complaints with the Better Business Bureau in over 25 years doing business. In fact we have never had a complaint filed with any consumer group or with the Department of Licensing.

"I would like to take a minute of your time to tell you what an amazing job your company did. You recently replaced my roof, installed new windows and siding. I have to admit I was a little nervous going into this, you always hear such horrible home improvement stories. From beginning to end everyone that I had dealings with was helpful, professional and courteous. David Ness Jr made my first home improvement experience an unforgettable one, not to mention the work performed is top notch

“Over the past 7 years I have used David Ness Jr. for three home remodeling projects. To use them three times should speak for itself. The jobs included: Replacement of the windows in my home, installation of a deck on the rear of my house, complete replacement of all siding and guttering on my house. Simply put, they are reliable, they do use quality materials, and really do have quality workman, they get the job done (they don’t disappear and then show back up when they feel like it), they clean up and they are gone. Compare David Ness Jr. Construction Co. to the other companies that send out an unlicensed salesperson's to drop off a quote like it's no more important than dropping off the morning newspaper. They'll even do it while you're not at home. Notice how they do that because they don't want you to know that they are violating state law which requires the proposal to be made only by licensed contractors.

Our Quality Control System will make sure your new roof will last longer and perform properly for many years. As the owner of David Ness Jr. Construction Co. David Ness Jr. Construction Co. always removes the old roof before installing the new roof. A Tear-Off provides you with assurance of a longer-lasting and more dependable roof. That way we can check for deteriorated wood and we can install waterproofing underlayment.

A Tear-Off is better that putting on a second layer. It will resist the wind better and it will protect against leaks in the winter. You’ll save money in the long run by tearing off the old roof.

I’ll come back when your new roof is completed for a final inspection and to meet with you to answer any questions that you may have. All of my customers get my cell phone number.

The way we conduct our business guarantees that we will deliver a higher level of customer satisfaction. We’ll help you avoid the frustration and disappointments caused by unreliable contractors.

Because we are confident that our quality control system will provide a more reliable roof, we offer a 15-year warranty on workmanship. Nobody's perfect, we've been called back a few times to fix minor problems. Typically those repairs were made within one business day after they were reported.

Does the owner evaluate your home prior to making recommendations?
Do they know what your project needs to qualify for a manufacturer’s warranty?
Does the owner inspect the work to make sure the installers are not cutting corners?
Does the owner come back to meet with you after the job is done?

Are they sending out an expert with hands on experience or are you dealing with a company that only has a sales and marketing orientation?
Are they coming in with a low price because they are compromising quality?
Are they compromising on materials, workmanship or by failing to provide expert recommendations and supervision?
Do they recommend tearing off the old roof? Or do they want to make a quick buck by putting a second layer, a second layer that provides less wind resistance, less waterproofing and won’t last as long?

Is the company stable? How long have they been in business? Will they be available if you ever need them to come back?
Ask them when the company was founded. Many contractors misrepresent their history. They tell you how many years experience they have not how long their company has been operating.
The roofing business is easy to get into but difficult to stay in for the long run. Most go out of business because their operating philosophy is based on maximizing volume while letting customer satisfaction fall by the wayside.
Many of the operators of roofing companies go from one company to another. They leave behind a lot of dissatisfied customers and then start up under another name. They’ll tell you that they’ve in business for 20-30 years when in reality their company was started just a few years ago.
Fly-by-night contractors permeate the roofing industry. Roofing companies are failing at a rate of 35% every three years, so 35% of roofing companies don’t stay in business long enough to honor a three-year warranty.

How do they control the quality of service and workmanship?
What looks like a good deal up front may actually cost 2-3 times more over the long run.

Do they run their company in an ethical and legal way? If they’re not afraid to break the rules do you think they’re afraid to take advantage of you?
Licensing; the company must be licensed and any sales person representing the company must be licensed. The sales person should be able to show you a license with their name on it.
Proposal; everything that’s included should be in writing.(This is where they fool people. They are vague about what’s included.)
Contractors are required by law to notify you in writing that you have three days to cancel the agreement.
If a contractor fails to pay for materials used on your project the supplier of the materials can place a lien on your property. What does that mean to you? The supplier of the materials may ask you to pay for the materials again. The supplier may place a lien on your home and you won’t be able to sell it until the lien is paid off. You may incur legal expenses because you’ll need an attorney to help you solve the problem.

Many companies that do roofing do not have insurance that covers roofing work. What if they damage your property, or what if one of their workers gets hurt on your property?
To verify they have proper insurance you would need to get proof directly from their insurance company.Ask if the contractor has General Liability Insurance and Workers Compensation Insurance that covers roofing.

Is it in writing?
Is it specific about what is covered?
How long is it?

So let me ask you this... Do you want a more thorough evaluation of what you need? Do you what to know all the options available to you? Do you want David Ness jr.to help you get better results? I thought so...

“We are extremely pleased with the work he contracted for through your company. The vinyl siding and trim installer is undoubtedly an extremely professional person who takes great pride in his work. As an example, he called our attention to the fact that two different widths of trim had been delivered. He first followed up with a call to someone over him and then asked if we would accept the trim that differed by a quarter of an inch in width. We said yes. So he made the two widths did'nt touch one another. The house looks great. All of the job related debris was cleaned up when the job was completed. Neighbors drive or walk by to look at and say how nice the house looks. Some stop to inquire about your company and how to get in touch with you.
